Accessories have the power to transform an old garment and make it brand new which not only increases the wearability of the ensemble but also brings the look together. When we think of harnesses, the first thing that springs to mind is the dominatrix. But that is a tired stereotype as designers have experimented with multiple interpretations. Dsquared2 presented beaded vibrant harness on their dresses and swimsuits that highlighted a folkloric tribal theme and Vivienne Westwood decorated hers with gem embellishments on long evening dresses. At Ann Demeulemeester, the harness was futuristic in shape and material and in Marissa Webb’s collection; the focus was on utility as they were well constructed in khaki green with pockets, like military fatigues. After body harness chains were spotted among the glitterati, it was but a matter of time when they became popular in the apparel section.
